Our Master Bedroom setup

Master bathroom console

Updated Master Bedroom Theater

This was our first "big screen" tv.  This is a JVC 55" widescreen.  This is does not support HD nor does it have component inputs.  The DVD is connected via S-Video.  An aging Yamaha receiver powers the system.  The sound is still very good.

The screen display is quite clear, except on these pictures, i had to use the camera flash, that's why it looks like it's washed out.  There is a two seater couch facing this screen which suites us fine when we want to watch a movie and not worry about ambient noises (Michelle's DDR fills the house when she and her friends start playing in the loft).

Since this simple setup is inside the masters bedroom, Joy and I can view the really scary and gory horror flicks without worrying about younger audience glancing and asking who, what, when and why.

Sound insulation in the house is also very good that once the master bedroom door is closed, sound from outside the room is almost completely eliminated.

Our Master Bathroom tv/computer/security console

An HP 17" flat panel serves as a computer monitor, tv display, and soon to be added IP-based security cameras display console.

We also use this as our chat computer along with a webcam.  An old Pentium based Dell computer equipped with a TV card and a 100mhz ethernet connection to our broadband ISP is more than adequate to surf and chat over the net.

A wireless keyboard and mouse completes the system.  Totally free of wires and neat installation is the name of the game.

Since part of our plan is to install security cameras around the house, we chose to have the security console to be located in our master bathroom.  There was adequate space between the his and hers bathroom sink for a 17" flat panel monitor.  Joy was very particular about wires running all over the place and she'd only allow me to mount the monitor if i can guarantee that there will be no wires running between the computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse.  I did all the installation myself.  The wires were run behind the walls for the computer monitor and webcam.  The keyboard and mouse are both wireless.

Now while getting ready for work in the morning, we can watch the news and monitor which freeways are congested and take appropriate actions.  From our house to downtown LA, the compute during rush hours would take 1.5 hours.  If you are unfortunate enough to take a freeway that has an accident, your commute could take over 2 hours.

In the future we will add interior and exterior cameras.  Camera of choice will be ip-based so we can view the cameras even when we are not at home.  IP-based cameras are also preferred because of their ability to be controlled remotely for zoom, pan, and tilt.  This computer will also be used to control those cameras once they are installed.
